Succulent Christmas trees are the cutest festive decor trend for 2020 - YOU Magazine

Whether you’re in camp real or faux, Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without a towering tree tree bedazzled with baubles. But for those who want to take their festive decor to the next level for 2020, may we introduce the latest alternative tree trend of the moment: succulent Christmas trees.

According to Insider, searches on Etsy for succulent Christmas trees in the US are up 17,973 per cent compared to this time last year, and given the amount of time we in the UK spend tending to our houseplants these days, we suspect that the trend will soon surge in popularity on our shores as well.

Smaller than your average tree, these quirky arrangements are great for homes where you might not have space for a 6ft fir, or for adding a sweet seasonal touch to a room where you might not typically have a tree at all, such as a bathroom or bedroom.

However, while they may be diminutive, don’t underestimate their power to make an impact and wow your guests this December. Decked out with lights and baubles, they can look every bit as chic and Christmassy as their larger counterparts.

The only slight issue is that most of the succulent Christmas trees available online are from American stores, and many of them are so overwhelmed with demand that they can’t keep up anyway.

If you want one of your own, it’s worth reaching out to a local florist to see if they can whip something up, or if you’re reasonably crafty or green fingered, use fake or real succulents to DIY a tree yourself.

This twisted design is so clever (although probably rather tricky to DIY).
