An Amarillo Boba shop now has a little more to offer its customers through a new partnership.

The Boba and tea shop Leaf and Bubble, 4137 SW 34th Ave., has partnered with local business Succa for Succulents to offer a unique space including nature and trendy comfort.

According to Leaf and Bubble Tea Shop owner/operators Anna Hogue and Brooke Skypala, they opened their business to Succa for Succulents owner Stefani Crawford after inviting her to host a DIY teacup collection at their previous Leaf and Bubble location. The DIY class welcomed community members to create a succulent arrangement in a tea cup. Following the DIY class and seeing the level of community involvement, the tea shop owners opened a space in their shop to Crawford, combining the community's love for Boba tea and plant care into a one-of-a-kind space in Amarillo.

"When we met Stefani, we saw that we had a lot of the same values and we wanted to celebrate and support local business. Her vision and our vision went together well and we knew that when we moved into this new space, we wanted to have a shared space for local vendors and businesses to come in and showcase what they are doing and felt Stefani was the perfect person to take that first step with," Skypala said.

Crawford said the idea for her succulent business came to her after realizing she was unhappy with her career as a schoolteacher. In the beginning, she was looking for new ways to nurture her mental and physical health and found that caring for plants was a good place to start.

Crawford then adopted a few succulents and began feeling better before accidentally killing them due to various reasons. After being discouraged from the plants' demise, Crawford said she picked herself up and started over and learned all she could to properly care for the plants. A few years later, she opened her business with a booth at the T- Anchor Flea Market, where she realized the expansive community revolving around plant life and plant care.

"I was at my lowest when I was working as a schoolteacher and began taking care of my succulents. Eventually, I realized that caring for these plants gave me a calming feeling and allowed me to take a physical breath that helped alleviate my stress every day," Crawford said. "These plants are not only good by providing oxygen, and they are not just pretty to look at, but they also help you emotionally and mentally to slow down and care for something and over time grow with it."

Today, she no longer finds herself caring for a couple of succulents but a couple hundred and is living her life's passion in teaching others how to care for and arrange them as well.

"I am excited to host events and teach others how to care for the plants, like how the air plants just need a good soaking for about 30 minutes a week or how much sunlight a plant needs, what is the preferred room temperature, how to root a succulent, ways that will help everyone from beginners to seasoned plant owners care for their plants while meeting others that enjoy plant growing and succulent growing," Crawford said.

Some other tips and tricks that she shared are featured in her DIY classes, including how to create a hydroponics plant from a succulent by taking a cutting approximately 3-4 inches from a succulent or vine with nodes, let it dry for about half an hour and place it in water to begin the rooting process. To then plant those hydroponic plants in dirt, Crawford recommends dipping the roots or "scab" on the plant in cinnamon before planting to ensure a healthy transfer for the plant.

The shop plans to host a monthly Social Soiree in the space's "Social Bubble" where they will invite the community to engage with both businesses by creating their own plant and enjoying the diverse menu options at Leaf and Bubble while engaging in conversation with individuals from both communities. Crawford said she is also looking forward to hosting a White Elephant Plant Swap, where individuals will bring a healthy plant to exchange for another during a game of White Elephant.

This month's social soiree will include succulent arrangements created in lightbulb terrariums as well as a vegan grazing board with beverages provided by Leaf and Bubble. A local henna artist will also be on hand at the event, scheduled for 6-8:30 p.m. today. Tickets can be reserved online with Succa for Succulents on Instagram or Facebook.

"During the event, we will discuss the significance of plants in the environment, as a business, and how to utilize them to their full benefit. This first topic will include panelist RuthAnna, the owner of Nutrify Skin Care. She will talk for about 20 minutes about the benefit of using all-natural goods and resources in her business. Then we will have some hors d'oeurves and Boba for sure, then move on to the plant swap. It is going to be huge to get an Amarillo-based plant community," Crawford said.

Individuals can visit the businesses of Succa for Succulents or Leaf and Bubble during business hours every Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m.
